Welcome to the 19th annual conference organised by the EECERA "European Early Childhood Education Research Association" in collaboration with the french association le Furet "Early childhood and Diversity".
Bienvenue au 19ème Congrès annuel organisé par EECERA "European Early Childhood Education Research Association" en collaboration avec l'association française le Furet "Petite enfance et Diversité".
Strasbourg (FRANCE),
26, 27, 28, 29 Août 2009

DECET (Diversity in Early Childhood Education and Training) brings together a network of European organizations and projects with common goals about valuing diversity in early childhood education and training. The network aims at promoting and studying democratic child care, acknowledging the multiple (cultural and other) identities of children and families. We view early childhood provisions as meeting places where people can learn form each other across cultural and other borders and therefore as public provisions that can effectively address prejudices and discrimination. In this sense early childhood education makes a clear contribution to the construction of European citizenship.

Steps towards accomplishing the aims stated in the DECET mission statement:
1. Networking with trainers, practitioners, researchers and policy makers throughout Europe;
2. Actively and critically promoting quality in early childhood education services, which includes equity, accessibility and respect for diversity;
3. Developing new knowledgeand insights in this field;
4. Working in collaboration with other networks in and outside Europe.

Diversities in Early Childhood Education
Strasbourg (FRANCE),
26th, 27th, 28th, 29th August 2009
Diversités des éducations des jeunes enfants
This theme will be addressed from the perspective of the rights of younger children and their families.
The education of younger children today is increasingly tackled in variable and complex ways, and the environments in which they live, both at home and in education and care, can be equally variable.
